6/18/14 REFORMED (RCA) & CHR REFORMED CHURCH (CRC) MAKE HISTORY @ JOINT SYNOD (this is nice....I remember growing up in the CRC...& we definitely were instilled to have a self-identity as CRC,which was definitely not RCA,...albeit my dad & grandpa,both CRC pastors,never accentuated the differences much at all. It was just something you learned at church & a bit at the Christian schools & Calvin. I notice Scott Greenway mentioned in a few articles about synod .Apparently he's the son of the former seminary professor,Roger & he's leading synod this year. I know the Greenways have some affiliation with the CRC but still don't know where they originally came from. The name doesn't sound Dutch, & most of the old-timers in CRC history have "funny Dutch names",while those with names such as Greenway would normally be found more often in more Americanized churches,including the RCA, which has strived,historically,a bit more to be "American" than the CRC. I'm just wondering if we are at the point where those of us with "funny Dutch names" are going to be marginalized in the CRC, our last place for solace in an America that still discriminates against those with "funny ethnic names",even those of us who are "white". search:christian reformed,reformed church of America, ;*read more at

6/19/14 CRC CELEBRATES 1st AFRICAN-AMERICAN (& female) PRESIDENT of BOARD of TRUSTEES, (its nice to have a diversity of skin colors & ethnicities on the board,but is the church supposed to "evolve" like the world? What's next? The first homosexual on the board? The first transgender? The CRC started as a Dutch-American denomination,not as a "white" denomination. It was for persons with "funny Dutch names" who still get marginalized in the working world today (except,perhaps,around Grand Rapids & other largely Dutch-American communities). And as much as the CRC claims to be a worldwide congregation,or at least largely northAmerican,it still seems to be a "regional" denomination,midwest in style & tone. I grew up in GR but after my family moved to California,some in the "midwest CRC" marginalized me as "from California" (along with the out-dated stale California jokes). If CRC really wants to be respected as a national congregation or larger,it needs parts of the denomination headquarters to be located on both coasts as well. I attended COS periodically during college & shortly thereafter. I was there when they were worshipping in the seymour school gym,and also when they were starting out at their new location. I think Jack even wrote a pastoral letter of recommendation for me (when I was starting out in education)

WASH POST COMMENTARY re CRC & RCA "Burying the hatchet (almost literally) -" The Washington Post
I remember when Michaelson was leading the RCA..he was on my mailing list for a while. The Lund Principle is a good point of reference. I applaud reconciliation,albeit I'm not comfortable with church members also being freemasons or other secret societies.
".Delegates were presented with a proposal to adopt the so-called "Lund Principle," which originated out of a
World Council of Churches gathering in 1952. The
document has captured the ecumenical imagination
for half a century, particularly its call to "act together
in all matters except those in which deep differences
of conviction compel us to act separately."
The Lund Principle flips the paradigm of ecumenical
relationships, asserting that the starting point is
always acting together, and demanding a conviction
to justify acting apart. The proposal resonated among
the delegates, and in good Reformed fashion, they
even tried to amend it. In the end it was adopted in a
miraculously unanimous vote..."
